Readathon Week Coming Up…

Readathon Week Coming Up…

Dear LAPMS Families and Friends,

Our Readathon Week is coming up! We are excited to announce that we will be opening our Library and Resource Center on Readathon Celebration Day, which is Friday, January 29th. We are raising awareness on the importance of literacy and to help children build a love of reading! Research has shown time and time again that a child’s reading skills are vital in building a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

In view of this, it is our goal to build a high-quality Library and Resource Center filled with books, educational videos/DVDs, and other resources for teachers to use in their classrooms. We are looking for new or lightly used books appropriate for children ages 2-6. Some genres in our wish list include classic storybooks, multicultural books, seasonal books, and informational texts, audiobooks, and DVDs. Book donations may be dropped off at the back office.

We hope you support us in our mission to promote literacy in our young children.
Thank you in advance for your help in strengthening Niles’ Library and Resource Center!

Have a great weekend!

Health and Safety at Niles

Health and Safety at Niles

Dear LAPMS Families and Friends,

Happy Thursday!

Our highest and foremost priority is the health, safety, and security of children in our facility. We are proud to have parents who support us all the way in maintaining a healthy and safe school environment.

We need your help to take all preventative measures to ensure your child’s health and safety and that of all children attending our school. In order to maintain a healthy environment, children who have symptoms of any deviation from normal health must stay home. Children must be sent to school with a warm jacket, especially during cold and rainy winter days. If the child is brought to school with symptoms of any communicable illness, a doctor’s note must be provided. On Fridays, please ensure that your child’s beddings are taken home and washed, so that it is clean and ready for use the following week.

We schedule disaster drills monthly so that children could participate and be aware of what to do in case of emergency. In our playground when children hear the sound of the whistle, they learn to stop, look, and listen, and line up in an orderly manner after the second whistle.

Please update us with your contact information, telephone number, email address, authorized persons to pick up your child and other important information for emergency and security purposes.

We continuously strive to grow and improve in all facets of your child’s education. Thank you for speaking to us about your concerns and suggestions on how we meet our goals. Your feedback is important to us.
Have a wonderful day!

Reading Literacy Skills

Reading Literacy Skills

Dear LAPMS Niles Families and Friends,

Happy Wednesday!

At LAMPS, our children are guided to experience the different phases of reading development from the two-year old classroom through Kindergarten. Early exposure to books and literature instills a love of reading. As children explore the world of books by simply leafing through the pages or looking at the pictures, their young minds open up and they begin their path to independent reading. With a prepared environment, children will build the foundations for learning to read and write.

Help us support reading literacy skills! Join your child to the Scholastic Reading Club at Niles by ordering books through Scholastics. We encourage parents to order online using PCZBD as the activation code.
Scholastic Reading Club Order forms are available in your child’s classroom.

Our warmest greetings to all of you!  We are happy to welcome our parents and families to our second month of the new academic year.  There are two wonderful events happening this month.

On Thursday, October 29th is the Pumpkin Patch Day!  Children will pick their pumpkins with their class from the grass field area by the flagpole.  The Pumpkin Patch schedule for each class is in your child’s classroom.   If you wish your child to participate in the Pumpkin Patch, the cost of one pumpkin is $3.00.  Please pay in cash to your child’s teacher on or before Friday, October 16th

On Friday, October 30th is the Halloween Parade.  Children will parade one classroom at a time around the paved area of the courtyard.  The order of the parade is in your child’s classroom.  Children are looking forward to dressing up for the parade!  Costumes must have a positive theme.  Costumes that are offensive, scary, or depict violence and inappropriate images will NOT be allowed.  Children may NOT bring toy weapons such as knives and swords.  Masks may only be worn for the parade, and must not obstruct the child’s vision.

Halloween gift items to celebrate the spirit of Halloween:  Parents may bring gift items (educational items only) to share to your child’s classroom on Friday, October 30th to celebrate the spirit of Halloween.  Stickers, mini-notebooks, and erasers are some examples of gift items to share.

Traditional Preschools vs. Montessori Schools

Traditional Preschools vs. Montessori Schools

An excellent early childhood education is invaluable for children of all learning levels. It’s an important first step in developing skills and talents, work habits, socialization, and participation. Before enrolling a child in preschool, many parents seek to explore different educational methods to ensure their child’s future success in kindergarten and beyond. Most parents will look at either traditional teacher-centric preschools or a Montessori preschool. Understanding the similarities and differences between these two teaching methods is essential to figuring out which will be right for you and your child.

Traditional preschools are considered to be teacher-centric. The teacher is the focus of the classroom and students must listen to a lesson and then do it when they’re told. On the other hand, in a Montessori preschool, the child is the focus and teachers serve more as guides. Children set their own pace for learning and teachers work one on one with students, developing lessons based on their progress in the class. Children are also typically the same age in a traditional preschool and have no real interaction with children of other ages. They are expected to be on the same level developmentally, intellectually, and socially. Montessori preschools group children aged 3, 4, and 5 together so that older students may serve as role models for younger ones and share what they have learned. Children are allowed to learn and discover individually and only work in groups if they choose.

In both traditional preschools and Montessori schools, there are still rules and guidelines that all children must follow. While the majority of those rules in a traditional preschool will focus on doing tasks exactly as instructed, participating in a group setting, and completing work on time, a Montessori school will have rules about creating an active learning environment and focus more on relationships with other students, respecting each other, and self-constructive activities. While traditional preschools may have assigned seats for children, which they may not leave unless given permission to do so, Montessori schools allow children to freely mingle with each other while visiting the different learning areas set up for them.

If you are interested in giving your child a Montessori education, Learn and Play Montessori School (LPMS) provides an academic curriculum that encourages your child to learn with all five senses and be an independent thinker. We provide preschool, Pre-K, kindergarten, and after school programs for children in the San Francisco Bay Area. With five locations in Fremont and Dublin/San Ramon, there is sure to be a campus near you! Our accredited Montessori and early childhood education teachers are trained to provide the highest quality of support and guidance for your child. NIles Graduation 2015

NIles Graduation 2015

It was amazing to see the parents, teachers and the room 2 children assembled together in celebrating one of the most memorable moments of their life–the graduation exercises.

With all the preparation, the teaching and learning procedures, time and effort and the wisdom, last Thursday morning of June 4th, all these were put to a celebration day.  We witnessed how the children walked to the stage to receive ribbon and certificate for their accomplishment.  Adding up to the highlight of the celebration was when the children sang the national anthem, graduation song and the Learn and Play Montessori song composed by our Music teacher.  We witnessed happy faces from parents as they take pictures of their children.  Everybody deserved a big round of applause!  We are happy as one big family here at Niles!

Thank you for being a part of out family!

Happy graduation and congratulations to all!

1st Annual Art Exhibit at LAPMS at Niles

1st Annual Art Exhibit at LAPMS at Niles

The 1st Annual Art Exhibit last April 20th was a great success!

The courtyard looked like an art gallery filled with a wide-variety of artwork from children ages 18 months through 6 years old.  From different kinds of lines and curves, scribbling, coloring, tearing of papers and pasting to the clay or wood sculpture are just incredible patterns and images when put together and that these artwork are creations from our own children.

Positive comments from parents and visitors who came to our Open House were our inspiration to serve and care for our children.

Congratulations to the children!  Keep up the good work!

Thank you to all parents and teachers for the patience and hardwork you put together to have this kind of event!
