Earth Day at Home

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd to bring awareness to environmental issues while encouraging people to take action to protect the planet. Protecting, caring for, and respecting our planet is of the utmost importance. At LAPMS, teaching our students a love for our planet is something that we practice year-round. Many of our students have experienced gardening, lessons on recycling, and actively learn about geography, botany, and zoology during cultural studies. Although Earth Day is every day, we love participating in this holiday and showing some extra love to our beautiful planet. We encourage you to partake in Earth Day with these three activities at home! [Read more…] about Earth Day at Home

Spring Montessori-Inspired Activities to Do At Home

Spring season is full of wonder, growth, and sunshine—making it the perfect time to do hands-on nature activities with young children. While the park is a great physical activity, it’s equally important to nurture your child’s curiosity and cognitive development at home. New: Explore our Infant Care Program at Dusterberry Campus (Fremont)

We are excited to announce the April, 2025, opening of our newest “Infant Care Program” in California, for ages 12 to 18 months. It’s located at our Dusterberry Campus, located at 4511 Peralta Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536; Tel. 510-870-2324. We’re in the heart of central Fremont, making it excellent for both parents and young children. Families interested in high-quality infant care, toddler, and preschool programs that combine the Montessori method with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are invited to tour this state-of-the-art Dusterberry campus located at 4511 Peralta Blvd. in Fremont, California.

Our infant program is thoughtfully designed to provide a warm, nurturing environment where even the youngest learners feel safe, loved, and supported. We understand how important these early months are for a child’s development, which is why our dedicated and caring teachers are focused on creating meaningful connections with each child. With individualized attention and compassionate care, we help infants build trust and feel secure as they begin exploring the world around them.

Throughout the day, our teachers engage in positive, responsive interactions—not only between caregivers and infants, but also encouraging early social connections among peers. We embrace the Montessori philosophy by introducing sensorial exploration and cognitive stimulation through age-appropriate activities. From the soothing rhythm of tummy time to practicing grasping and guided movement, every experience is an opportunity to strengthen motor skills and promote healthy physical development.

But our focus extends beyond physical growth. We’re also here to nurture emotional well-being. Our infant program gently introduces social-emotional learning, helping little ones recognize emotions, respond with curiosity, and engage in positive, loving interactions. These early lessons in emotional connection lay a strong foundation for future communication and relationships.

Our beautifully prepared environment is calm, inviting, and rich with materials that inspire discovery. Whether it’s reaching for a new texture, tracking a mobile, or simply watching the world from a cozy spot, our infants are constantly learning and growing at their own pace. At LAPMS, we believe in honoring each child’s unique journey, and our infant program is just the beginning of a lifelong love for learning.

Building Strong Readers: How Learn And Play Montessori Nurtures Literacy Success

A 2023 report rated American children’s reading ability as woefully inadequate compared to other wealthy countries. Yet reading is fundamental to learning – first, the child “learns to read,” and subsequently, the child “reads to learn.” You must prioritize reading at the earliest levels, as it is (obviously) a foundational skill. At Learn And Play Montessori School, we believe in working hard with every child to that he or she becomes “above average,” (hopefully way above average), and becomes a fluent reader by the time they graduate from our preschool curriculum. We build a solid foundation of language skills with early phonetics instruction, learning how to write through Montessori activities. We also emphasize “fun,” as we strive to make reading “fun,” including hands-on learning experiences. This strategy helps students develop the skills and passion needed for reading in the future. The Power of Play: How It Nurtures Critical Thinking and Creativity

At the center of the Bay Area—where innovation abounds, and technology continues to reshape the future—the ironic concept that can build lifelong learning success is play. Yes, “play,” fun, and games are essential to instill a passion for lifelong learning among our students. At Learn And Play Montessori School (LAPMS), “play” goes beyond mere recreational activity; it is a crucial component of learning. Our play-based, Montessori-inspired programs (available in Fremont, Moraga, San Carlos and other Bay Area cities) teach an array of cognitive and social skills, through hands-on, imaginative, and fun play. LAPMS Value: Equity

Learn And Play Montessori School acknowledges the importance of equity in education and strives to give all our students the tools needed to succeed. All our campuses, from Hercules to Sunnyvale, give each child the individual attention needed to learn and discover while developing core values such as honesty, integrity, empathy, compassion, and kindness. Our classrooms, prepared by Montessori-certified and trained teachers, offer hands-on tools for each child at every stage of development.

Equity is achieved in our classrooms through providing support based on a student’s needs, recognizing diversity such as the value of a student’s strengths and challenges, being inclusive, and building relationships with our students and families. Every day, we put our Learn And Play Montessori School value, Equity, into action. Here are a few examples of how we bring equal access to top-notch learning, removing barriers and creating a level playing field.

  1. Tailored Learning

Montessori activities are designed to follow a child’s progress, fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom where all students can thrive. During math class, our students are introduced to Montessori Number Rods to understand numbers, quantity, and measurement. Once they are confident with these materials, they move on to adding number cards. This addition allows them to have a visual representation of number symbols. Learn And Play Montessori Schools recognize that children learn at their own pace. Our teachers provide differentiated instruction and support to assist everyone’s needs.

  1. Addressing Social-Emotional Needs

Social-emotional learning (S.E.L.) is a critical part of our curriculum, as it is our goal to help guide individuals outside of core academics. Addressing social-emotional topics during a child’s early years –regardless of their background– ensures their understanding of emotions, giving them the tools to communicate and advocate for themselves. Building a child’s voice and confidence empowers them to speak with parents and teachers when they need support. S.E.L. creates self-assured individuals who can express their needs, giving LAPMS insight into when a child needs help.

  1. Building a Sense of Community

All our LAPMS campuses work on building a strong sense of community where our students and families alike feel valued, connected, and respected. Being able to form a community and bond allows our educators to provide the best support possible. From your first conversation with our enrollment team to attending orientation and beyond, LAPMS is here for you every step of the way.

Our goal is to give each child the individualized attention needed to learn. We achieve this goal by providing an enriching environment for each student, regardless of their background. Our school value, equity, aligns with the Montessori philosophy that our schools are centered around. To Learn And Play Montessori School, our community is strengthened and enlightened by the diversity and uniqueness of all our students and families we have the honor of serving.

Teaching the Montessori Way

At Learn And Play® Montessori School, we have a unique approach: we combine Montessori with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We aim to get the “best of both worlds,” the passionate “love of learning” that comes from Montessori and the practical, forward-looking career skills that STEM provides. In this post, let’s explore some of the Montessori aspects of our best-in-class preschool programs from Sunnyvale to Hercules, Fremont to Milpitas, Pleasant Hill to Moraga and everywhere in between (as we are opening new campuses all the time). Learning Through Art

Art is often thought of as “something extra,” but art is a huge part of education and a major part of “being human.” Throughout our programs, we leverage art for fun and as a mechanism to help kids learn and to learn to love learning. Let’s discuss art! [Read more…] about Learning Through Art

Material Spotlight: Montessori Mathematical Golden Beads

Montessori Golden Beads teaches mathematical concepts such as linear counting, place value, basic arithmetic, and the decimal system. Using the Montessori hands-on approach, these materials allow our young learners to count units from ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. We use this strategy across our campuses, from Fremont to Hercules, Milpitas to Pleasant Hill, and across our many best-in-class preschool programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Combining independent learning with this sensorial mathematical activity builds curiosity within our Learn And Play® Montessori School students, engaging them in a way traditional math practices are unable to do successfully.
