In preschool, physical education IS critical, as it helps establish healthy habits and encourages active lifestyles. Children at this age are naturally energetic and inquisitive, and structured physical activity can help channel that energy into motor skills, coordination, and balance. When children run, jump, and dance, they get the physical benefits of exercise along with confidence. Here at LAPMS throughout our campuses from Fremont to Danville, Hercules to Sunnyvale, and everywhere in between, our staff challenges our children physically, creatively, and collectively: from music and movement, dancing to yoga, outdoor and indoor activities! During play time, we have bicycles available for children to explore and play — allowing us to further help them with motor skills and just the fun of learning to ride bikes and trikes.
Of course our programs emphasizes “brain learning” such as our STEM focus as well as social skills. But we believe in a healthy body, too. Our Montessori-inspired curriculum supports the overall growth of every child. We provide the necessary tools for our students to work on their foundational skills and imbue a passion for life-long learning and self-development. We are producing grounded and confident future citizens – mind, social skills, and physical fitness.
Also, you can’t think of these thinks as in contradiction one to the other. Physical education contributes to cognitive development. Studies reveal that incorporating physical activity into a child’s routine can improve focus and memory, aiding in the retention of knowledge. Children also learn critical life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance through games and movement. Our staff promotes healthy habits in our schools by instilling a love for movement and SCF Implementation as a positive way to get people moving while also improving overall wellness and of course, if done positively, the joy of learning!
